Ideal weight & daily weigh-in habit

VitalGauge forecasts often aim toward an “ideal weight” band near BMI ~22.5 for illustration — not a moral score. Consistency of weigh-ins beats chasing every 0.2 lb bounce.

BMI categories (adult screening)

CDC adult BMI categories are a population screening tool: underweight, healthy weight, overweight, and obesity classes. BMI should be interpreted with other clinical factors — not alone.12

BMI (adults ≥20) Category (CDC) VitalGauge use
< 18.5 Underweight Do not chase further loss; discuss with a clinician.
18.5 – 24.9 Healthy weight Maintenance / composition focus may matter more than scale drops.
25.0 – 29.9 Overweight Weight-progress forecast tools may appear.
≥ 30.0 Obesity (classes I–III) Educational pace estimates only — clinician for personal plans.

Daily weigh-in habit that reduces noise

Habit Do Avoid
Timing Same morning window, after voiding, before food. Post-meal / post-workout “gotchas.”
Conditions Similar clothing (or none), same scale placement. Switching scales every other day.
Interpretation Weekly averages beat single days (salt/water swings). Changing your whole diet after one up day.
Composition Optional advanced scales estimate fat % — treat as rough DIY. Treating consumer BIA as DEXA truth.

Issues illustrated

Issue Why it hurts progress Fix
Chaotic conditions Noise masquerades as failure or success. Standardize morning weigh-ins.
BMI-only identity Muscle, bone, and fat distribution differ; CDC calls BMI a screening measure.2 Pair with waist, strength, labs, clinician judgment.
Crash deficits Unsustainable cuts inflate rebound. Use app pace tools; keep protein/micronutrients.
